Annette Hatton Outstanding Student Advocate Award

An Outstanding Student Advocate Award was created in 2011 specifically to recognize students who have made a significant contribution to the LGBT community at UGA. In 2012, a scholarship was established by GLOBES, the queer and ally faculty and staff organization, and the award was named the Annette Hatton Outstanding Student Advocate Award.

Annette Hatton, managing editor of The Georgia Review at the University of Georgia for over 22 years, founded GLOBES in 1994 and also helped to start Athens Pride in 1998.  She served as the chair of GLOBES until 2008.

The purpose of this award is to honor Annette’s dedication and contributions and will be given annually at Lavender Graduation. The award comes with a scholarship and will recognize an undergraduate student for his or her remarkable commitment to service in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.

Any undergraduate student who has made a substantial and long-lasting contribution to the LGBTQ community at the University of Georgia may apply for the Annette Hatton Outstanding Student Advocate Award. The criteria upon which the applicants are evaluated are:

• Connection to the LGBTQ community
• Significant contribution(s) to the LGBTQ community at UGA
• Lasting impact of contribution(s)
• Leadership in the LGBTQ community
